| After the low floor Lances, Go-North East turned to Optare for low floor buses. 8125-8132 were 10.7M Excels which entered service at Percy Main in Coastline livery. The rest of the Excels were to the longer 11.5M length. Deptford operated Excels on 220/222 with Durham Road "Superroute" branding. Other depots with strong Excel fleets included South Shields and Chester-le-Street. Due to poor reliability all the Excels had short lives with Go-North East with many going to Ireland for further service. More heavy weight chassis now the perfered choice. |
